Ways to Modernize Your Bedroom Design

Ways to Modernize Your Bedroom Design

Modernizing your bedroom can be as simple or as complicated as you want but either way it can be fun to put some life into things that may have gone stale. There are simple things you can do in each area of the room that will help to transform it into something modern and comfortable.

Walls

The walls are perhaps the most obvious places to start in your quest to make a dramatic difference. Changing the wall colors or changing the wallpaper design can certainly make an impact. If you want to be really up to date, regardless of style, then browsing the latest interior design magazines or websites will give you a starting point. You will need to consider the size and shape of the room and work out some tactics to keep the price down if you are on a budget. If big flower patterns are in, pick a design and color you like and wallpaper the wall behind the head of the bed and this can be your design focal point. A complementary paint color on the remaining walls will give nice balance.

Flooring

Flooring is often overlooked during the interior design process, but here too there are things that can be done to freshen things up. Trends come and go quickly and are often cyclical. Stripped and painted floorboards could be hot, or it might be laminates that are “in” and there is always a phase when carpeted floors are stylish. So, it’s a case of going with what you like. If you favor laminate, then lighter colors usually work better in bedrooms. The same also applies to carpets, but you can be clever and select a neutral color, so that next time you want a bedroom overhaul, the chances of the flooring already working with your new scheme will be much higher!

Lighting

If your bedroom isn’t blessed with a lot of natural light, then tweaking your internal lighting can really help to change the atmosphere. Choosing something stylish with soft tones for your main lighting and coordinating your bedside lamps to blend in, can work really well. Although if you love to read, make sure the light is good enough for your latest page turner to be seen.

Furniture

As much as we may have an emotional attachment to those old pine freestanding wardrobes, modernizing might mean that they have to go! Furniture, more than anything else in the room, will date and dictate the overall feel. Built in wardrobes with sliding doors can be a great way to not only modernize but also to optimize limited storage space. With so many designs available, it won’t be difficult to find something that works perfectly with your scheme. If you aren’t restricted by budget, then this might be a good time to get a classy new bed frame to match those new wardrobes.

If you’re going to change the color, which is an inexpensive method of updating, check out which ones are current and modern. I’ve noticed, for example, that turquoise blue seems to be hot right now.

Awesome roundup! I like the tips you mentioned in lighting since our house can be pretty dim inside even during day time because it’s in the middle of tall buildings.
