Home improvements can end up being very expensive and time consuming, but what about when you just want to add a fresh ‘feel’ to your home without spending a fortune? There are some things that you can do that should make quite a difference to your home, without having to spend lots of money on bringing in the professionals. We thought it would make an interesting blog post to go through some of the things you can do to make quick and easy improvements to your home, without having to have a budget the size of the moon.
OK, so we’re not going to give you the magic ticket to a new home for nothing, but depending on your creative skills you should be able to give you home a freshen up with the ideas we’ve listed below. In fact, a lot of this will depend on how creative you are, and if you can really get stuck into it then you should be able to see some really decent improvements, and have a lot of fun in the process. Of course, if you’ve got some great ideas of your own, then feel free to leave them in the comments section…we’d love to hear from you.
Replacing/re-painting cupboard doors
This is a great idea if you’re looking to give any particular room in your home a bit of a freshen up. For example replacing the whole kitchen can cost a lot of money in materials and labor, but what about just replacing or renovating the existing cupboard doors. Quite often the unit doors make the biggest impact in a kitchen, so giving these a bit of new life should improve the look of the whole kitchen. If you can’t afford to replace them completely, then you could always opt for the cheaper option of repainting them. With just a little bit of time and money, you should end up with a kitchen that looks new!
Re-painting rooms
I’m sure you’ve all heard the saying ‘it’s amazing what a lick of paint can do!’. Well, that saying’s famous because it’s true! If you’re rooms are looking tired and a bit out of date, the quickest and cheapest way to bring them back to life is to re-paint them. Even if you stay with the same color scheme, you will end up with rooms that look like new. If you’re budget is a little bit tight, then you could always think about working on one room at a time, meaning that you only have to splash out on paint every now and then. Even though paint isn’t all that expensive, repainting your whole home can add up a little bit so scheduling the work like this will probably be worthwhile.
Lampshades and Lighting
How you decide to light your rooms will definitely play a big role in the general ‘feel’ of your home. If you’ve got a little bit of money to spend then you can easily change the whole atmosphere of your home by simply changing the way you light it. The cheapest option here is to go out and buy a few new lampshades to try and freshen up your existing lighting. If you’ve got a bit more money to spend then you could think about buying some new lamps to place around the home. Changing from ceiling lighting to floor and wall lighting will make a big impact on the design of your rooms.
Accessories
If you’re still not 100% happy with the way your home looks, and there’s still a bit of money left in the tin then you could go out and purchase a few new accessories. Items such as aquariums, ornaments and other house hold accessories will certainly add a new vibe to your home. If you don’t want to spend much money, then you can always try and find a few second hand bargains.
Whatever you choose to do with your home, we hope this tips have helped out a little bit!
