Benefits of a Metal Roof

If you want a roof that is constructed to combat high winds, has a long life expectancy and is extremely low maintenance, you should consider a metal roof. Local home improvement experts say, metal beats out conventional roofing materials on a number of different counts.

First off, let’s talk expected life. Properly installed, a metal roof should last as long as the house, completely sealing out water, surviving high winds, and easily shedding snow. Metal is resistant to fire, mildew, insects, and rot. Another plus is that metal roofing is lightweight.
Metal roofing is a popular choice for homeowners for so many reasons and metal roofs provide a number of benefits and advantages over asphalt shingle roofs including:

  • Long life expectancy.
  • Low maintenance.
  • Durability.
  • Lightweight to ease stress on your roof structure and framing.
  • Long term warranties.
  • Energy Efficiency – save money with reduced heating and cooling costs.
  • Increased resale value of your home.
  • Increased protection from high winds, hurricanes, and fire.
  • Environmentally friendly building choice.
  • Made from recycled material and won’t contribute to our landfills.
  • Reduces energy consumption.
  • Insurance discounts possible.

I’m considering a metal roof for a new build. How does it compare in cost to a traditional composite or wood shake roof? And how easy is it to find a local contractor to do a metal roof?
