Poolside Furniture Ideas

Furnishing your outdoor space can be tricky, especially when you have a pool to cater for too. You’ll need to think about what size of furniture you can handle around your pool, as well considering the reliability of weather in your area and whether you should go for plastic / wood or cushioned options. Then, of course, there is the need to tailor to your new furniture to your personal style and to the style of your home too. One of the biggest mistakes people make is distancing the style of their outside furniture to their interior which leads to an imbalance of style throughout your property – so think about this when buying too.

There’s also a great little checklist you should remember, so have a read of it below and see how many of them apply to you:

1)       Do you find yourself eating outdoors a lot?

2)       Do you often entertain guests?

3)       Do your children use the swimming pool and outdoor area?

4)       Do your children need supervision whilst swimming?

5)       Do you like to sunbathe?

Choosing the size of your furniture

If your pool size is big but your deck size is small, you could opt for simple table seating which often saves a lot of space. If you wanted recliners, think about looking for retractable ones, so you can move them off the deck if you need the space for something else at another time. If you have a bigger deck near your pool you could go for a variety of furniture, why not choose to have some reclining sunbeds, as well as a table and chairs for eating at? If you have the luxury of space, then take advantage of it.

Choosing the style of your furniture

There are many different styles of furniture you can opt for and this is where you need to consider your personal taste and the interior of your home and the exterior style too. If your home is modern and open plan then go for modern and simple outdoor furniture in sleek styles that will compliment your home too. If your home is more traditional than modern, then look at perhaps wooden or Tuscan style furniture as this will really compliment the style of your home. Wooden and Tuscan style furniture is also great for pools that have very green and natural gardens – as it encourages the natural feel to the environment.

Things to avoid

There are certain things you should perhaps avoid when choosing your outdoor furniture. For example, if your town often suffers from bad or rainy weather – it’s best to choose metal or plastic furniture as it will last longer and weather less. If you live in very hot weather then going for metal might not be so wise, as metal can heat up and get hot very quickly in the sun, and with children that might not be such as wise idea.

These are useful tips to keep in mind when considering furniture for a particular area of the home. Home owners should not only choose a piece of furniture for its beauty but also for its function and practicality.

I think plastic furniture for the poolside is a great idea. It can get wet, can take hot or rainy weathers. It’s also easy to clean and cheaper.

I think durability is a key factor as the furniture will have to withstand weather extremes and during winter is likely to be neglected for a period of time. A lot of the plastic furniture you can get these days looks like cane/rattan and wears really well.
