Because it’s so so darn cold outside, winter is not the ideal time to tackle many home improvement projects. However, experts say there are certain projects that you should actually do when the weather is cold. Painting is one of them!
Painting during the winter is great because the cooler temperatures allow the paint to dry quicker and more evenly than in the humid summer months. In addition to being an easy project, it can also really freshen up the look of your home. Oh, have I mentioned that painting is the cheapest way to freshen up the look of your home?
Organization experts say de-cluttering is another great winter project. Getting rid of stuff you don’t use not only makes it look cleaner and less cluttered, it also gives your mental state a little boost when you know that everything is in its place. Don’t worry you can still have that household staple- the junk drawer. Just try to have one instead of a whole cabinet.
Professional home stagers say the easiest and cheapest way to update your living room is with new pillows, curtains and rugs. It’s all about the accessories! Changing out the color combinations of the rooms can really give your home a boost. While curtain shopping can be a real pain, they really make your home’s windows look amazing! Dining rooms and eat in kitchens can be given new life with colorful tablecloths, runners or chair covers.
We’ve already talked about painting. But what about giving an old cabinet or hutch a little update with paint? Give it a new look by refinishing it. Great ways to really make the piece shine are deciding whether to restore it to its natural beauty, distress it for that antique look, or paint it a bold color. Most can be done by stripping paint, sanding and repainting. It may be cold outside, but these are all inexpensive way you can breathe new life into your home this winter!
You have some useful tips for D.I.Y. during the winter months. My wife has been nagging at me for ages to paint our spare room. Given that you say that it’s better to paint when it’s cold, I think I’ll get the paint brushes out. That’ll shock the Mrs!
I didn’t know that it is possible to paint your house during winter months. I guess it’s time to change the appearance of our room.

Adding insulation will save you money by reducing heat loss in the pipes that carry hot water. You also won’t wait as long for hot water when you turn on your faucet.
These are some cool ideas, thanks for sharing! I have a question, how do you deal with ventilation when painting in the winter?
I also have a suggestion for another winter project: a home energy audit. If you are able to tell were your home is losing the most heat, you can fix those problems and save some money on your utility bills. If you combine that with painting, your house will look better AND be more comfortable.

Wash your windows. Even if you’re stuck indoors, that doesn’t mean you can’t improve your view of the winter wonderland outside. Winter’s a great time to wash the inside of your home’s windows. You can tackle the other side of the glass when it’s bearable to step outdoors.
Painting and wallpapering are great winter home improvement projects. Take your time, and once spring and summer rolls around, you’ll be ready to begin your outdoor home improvement and painting projects.
Painting is a perfect winter project, but it can be time-consuming. I am pleased to read all this useful information. Thank you for sharing.
